Mrs Tinsley (Class Teacher), Mrs Oxford (Teaching Assistant) and the children of class 2 welcome you to our class page! We use this page to share photos and videos of what we have been doing in class 2. You will also find below some reminders about reading, homework, spelling and Times Tables (Year 2 only) books.
Please listen to your child read each day even if this is just for 5 minutes. Children do not have to read a whole book in one go. Please record in their Reading Records what page your child has got up to and a comment on how they read. Once your child finishes their book it will be swapped for a new one. Encourage your child to sound out the letters and then blend them back together e.g. e-l-e-ph-a-n-t...elephant.
Homework will be set on a Friday and will alternate between a Maths and an English activity based on what the children have been learning that week. Completed homework needs to be returned to school by the THURSDAY the following week so it can be marked before the next piece of homework is set.
New spellings will be stuck into your child's orange spelling books every Friday. Children are tested on their spellings on a Friday morning. Please do not practise in the spelling books - these are just for spellings to be given out and for tests to be completed at the back of the book. Children are to bring their spelling books into school each day so they can practise these first thing every morning. Please support your child to practise their spellings every day even if you only focus on a few words each time.
Times Tables (Year Two)
Green Times Tables books have been provided - these have your child's current set of Times Tables stuck in at the front. Please do not practise in this book. This book is just for Times Tables to be given out and for tests, which are completed in the back of the book. Children are to bring their Times Tables books into school each day so they can practise these first thing every morning. They will be tested on their Times Tables on a Friday morning. Once children have achieved full marks on a set of Times Tables, they will be given the next set. It is important that children are secure with the Times Tables they are on before moving on to the next set. Please practise little and often at home. Mix up how you practise them so they are not just rote learning them.
Linking to our focus text, The Day the Crayons Quit, Class 2 had quite a surprise this morning when our chairs decided to quit! They left a letter telling us how upset they were with not being pushed in, being rocked on or dragged and one was cross at Mrs Tinsley for standing on it when reaching up to a display! We quickly made a plan. We wrote letters of apology to the chairs and drew pretty pictures, and luckily after lunch the chairs returned - phew!
